Cigarette License

A cigarette license is required of any person that engages in the wholesale or retail sale of cigarettes within the state. A cigarette dealer’s license does not authorize the licensee to engage in the business of trafficking in cigarettes at any place of business in this State other than the location specified by the County Auditor.

Fill out a cigarette license application.

A cigarette dealer’s retail license may be obtained in the Allen County Auditor’s Office for a fee of $125.00. If the license is filed after the fourth Monday in May, the license will be pro-rated. This license is renewed annually on or before the fourth Monday in May with a new application. To obtain a cigarette dealer’s license the licensee must also possess a vendor’s license.

Any person who employs the use of a motor vehicle to convey a supply of cigarettes from place to place for the purpose of offering such cigarettes for sale must obtain a license for each vehicle in each County in which any vehicle is so used. Review a list of other County Auditors throughout the State. 

In the event that a business is moved from one location to another, or the business is sold, or an individual or partnership incorporates his or their business, or partnership or corporation is dissolved, the cigarette license which has been issued to a dealer prior to the occurrence of any such event may not be used.

A cigarette dealer’s license may be assigned to a person other than to whom it has been issued, or to a place of business in the same county other than that for which it has been issued, by filing an application with the Auditor of the County in which it was issued. There is a $1.00 fee for the transfer.

Cigarette licenses are to be displayed near the product being sold for easy inspection. If cigarettes are being sold in a place of business with no license or the vending machine does not have one displayed, please contact the Allen County Auditor’s Office:
